COACH Mentoring Program

COACH is a community strengthening program that aims to empower individuals and families through one to one mentoring toward life goals, breaking generational cycles of poverty and family breakdown.

The COACH program equips volunteer mentors from local church communities with training and support to walk alongside people who are experiencing some challenging life issues and have limited informal supports. Mentors meet with COACH participants for 1-2 hours per week to build relationships and focus on life goals.

The COACH vision is to see people in tough places flourish. We believe God cares deeply for the marginalised in society and our mission is to join in with Him to help people flourish emotionally, socially, economically and spiritually.

COACH is faith-based but not faith-biased and seeks to benefit people from all different walks of life. COACH focuses on modelling Christ-centeredness, grace, care, trust and interdependence in relationships with others.

Through COACH, Baptist Care SA can work with churches across South Australia to:

  • support families/young people in need of help
  • empower those families/young people to make positive life choices
  • help improve resilience & self esteem
  • Create better outcomes for children.

COACH partners with not-for-profits and churches to train volunteer mentors and match them with individuals in need. Over 12+ months, COACH participants meet with their mentors each week.

A COACH Mentor is a friend with purpose, offering practical help and mentoring towards life goals. These goals may include education, employment, training, improved mental health, reduction in addictive habits, financial management, housing, family cohesion, decrease in social isolation, and improved physical and emotional wellbeing. Mentoring is a way to bring out the best in people and help them make use of their own resources. It also promotes individual responsibility and builds community cohesion.

COACH Network is operated by Crossway LifeCare (80%), in partnership with Mission Australia (20%).  www.coachnetwork.org
