See the ways to donateFrom working in the ‘cut throat’ advertising industry, Jaqueline traded her fast paced Sydney lifestyle for a life of giving and service.
With the unexpected death of her father, Jaqueline’s life changed overnight. She relocated, became a Christian and spent the next few years caring for her mother, her intellectually disabled aunt and then her elderly neighbour.
She now works as an artist and Community Support Worker. Three years ago, Jaqueline chose to become a monthly donor to Baptist Care SA.
WestCare is close to my home, so I can see where my donation is going. I also like the fact that Baptist Care SA shares my Christian values.”
Her commitment strengthened when she befriended a man who was homeless last year. “It was winter, and I hated that somebody was out in the freezing cold and that we were safe inside,” she says.
Being confronted with a homeless person’s reality really “hit home” to Jaqueline, and she was thankful that there are places like Baptist Care SA for people to turn to. She began donating non-perishable foods and applied for volunteer roles with Baptist Care SA.
“If we all gave something to organisations that help disadvantaged people, then maybe homelessness could be eradicated. In the long term, that’s my hope for Adelaide.”
