Update from Inner City

Update from Inner City

Our team at Inner City are continuing to do an amazing job providing vital support to people in need, despite the myriad challenges during the COVID-19 emergency.

The Community Food Hub team has been working tirelessly to keep incoming stocks scanned and onto the shelves. They are also taking appropriate social distancing measures to make sure we keep our clients safe while shopping. We thank them for their ongoing commitment to ensure food security in the CBD, even in the toughest of times.

In the past week, 11 Social Work students from Flinders University have stepped in to help screen clients (to make sure they are being COVID safe), serve breakfast and lunch in the courtyard, assist with Emergency Relief, stock shelves at the Food Hub and visit rough sleepers who are being temporarily housed in hotels around Adelaide. This symbiotic arrangement allows the University students to complete their 500 hours of placement while assisting our Inner City team to help those most vulnerable.

Thanks to food donations from Foodbank SA, Ozharvest and Second Bite, Adelaide restaurant Shobosho is continuing to prepare lunches for our WestCare Centre clients six days a week, and weekly dinners for our Homeless Respite Centre.

Local ‘Café outside the Square’ (Whitmore Square) has also been cooking batches of soup for our clients a couple of times a week. We have received positive feedback from clients who say they are enjoying the interesting variety.

It’s wonderful to see such kindness, compassion and generosity of spirit.

Thank you again to our Inner City team!
