As Case Managers, we form part of a team combining parents and schools and community services who support young people who have disengaged from school, or are at risk of disengaging from school, to learn life skills and achieve their SACE or other vocational qualifications.
Within a positive and adaptive environment, barriers to education are addressed through in-class support, mentoring, parent engagement, conflict resolution and links to other community services.
We work with students, parents and schools to identify strengths, special interests and areas where a young person needs support.
This can provide access to subjects of specific interest and include learning options outside of school, such as further education, training or apprenticeships.
We offer a blend of school based, outreach and learning centre models that are based on the DOE model and include elements of accredited learning.
As part of a Baptist Care SA FLO enrolment, young people engage with other Baptist Care SA services such as Adventure Services, Urban Education and mental health support, in keeping with the DOE model.
Bean Buggy is a mobile coffee van where Flexible Learning Options students can train as baristas as part of an accredited course in customer service and food handling .
As well as practical hospitality skills, students build confidence and independence and achieve accreditation towards their SACE.
To be eligible to participate in FLO, students must be enrolled in a SA government school, be in at least Year 8, aged 21 years or under and experiencing ongoing attendance concerns.
We provide FLO programs in Adelaide’s north, east, west, south and north east.
