Baptist Care SA expands adventure camping with the acquisition of Wirraway Homestead

Wirraway Homestead will be transferred to Baptist Care SA Inc as part of a plan to strengthen and expand adventure camping opportunities in South Australia.

The Boards of Baptist Care SA Inc and Wirraway Homestead Ltd are pleased to announce that the assets and operations of Wirraway will be formally transferred to Baptist Care SA in May 2021.

Wirraway has provided life-enriching camping experiences for thousands of children and young people through its unique outdoor education and horse-based programs over the last 45 years.

Both Wirraway and Baptist Care SA have a strong focus on improving outcomes for at-risk children, young people and Aboriginal people. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we collaborated to deliver unique programs and assistance to vulnerable communities.

It is Baptist Care SA’s intention to build upon the unique attributes and legacy of Wirraway whilst embracing fresh opportunities and seeking to build a sustainable social enterprise that will improve the lives of young South Australians for many years to come.

Baptist Care SA has been delighted to engage in acquisition discussions with Wirraway over the last 12 months, and gratefully acknowledges the trust and purposeful dialogue that has led to this exciting outcome.

The transfer of Wirraway’s long-established camping facilities near Strathalbyn to Baptist Care SA is in recognition of the strong alignment between Wirraway’s missional objectives and Baptist Care SA’s values and bold Strategic Horizons Plan.

This acquisition will see Wirraway’s legacy continued, while further strengthening Baptist Care SA’s capacity for faith-based camping ministry, enhanced leadership development and improved and expanded client outcomes.

Baptist Care SA acknowledges the proud history, faithful heritage and contributions of many people throughout Wirraway’s ministry, including Wirraway’s faithful and benevolent founders. Baptist Care SA is honoured to take this next step to ensure the ongoing ministry of Wirraway.
