Darcy’s determination pays off

Darcy’s determination pays off

Darcy was removed from the care of his parents when he was nine years old. He returned to our care following an initial reunification attempt feeling abandoned and lacking control over his life. Due to traumatic experiences in his life, he became involved in some high risk behaviours at home and at school.

Our team in Mt Gambier worked with Darcy and a range of stakeholders to achieve a caring and supportive routine that worked with his strengths and capacity to achieve a period of stabilisation even within a short-term care model.

After further placements had offered Darcy steps to independence, he was referred to Baptist Care SA’s Supported Independent Living Program (SILs). He began to make real progress, due to his own determination to succeed. Darcy identified his own goals and learnt to manage his own finances, meeting his own needs and paying his rent. His home is clean and tidy. Recently, Darcy found employment as an apprentice. He’s only missed one day due to sickness. Soon he will move into independent accommodation and stand on his own two feet. He has many opportunities in front of him as he steps into his future.
