Sam’s Story

A mother’s real-life story of heartbreak and hope.

Sam struggled with mental health issues and left home at just 13 years old. He lived on the streets before he found his way to Baptist Care SA’s WestCare Centre. There he was befriended by support workers, Tony and Barry, and became a regular visitor for 20 years.

Sadly, Sam passed away just short of his 47th birthday.

“The sadness of Sam’s passing is still with us. But we remember the good times we had as a family. Baptist Care SA’s WestCare Centre was there for him when we couldn’t beThey gave him support, care and genuine love,” says Sam’s mother Michele.

Sam’s parents believe that the impact of Baptist Care SA’s WestCare Centre cannot be underestimated.

Baptist Care SA’s WestCare staff ensured that as a young, at-risk person living with mental illness and challenges, Sam felt valued and cared for.

Your generous support is desperately needed to keep Baptist Care SA’s WestCare Centre doors open as we support those in great need this winter.
