More than 220 people gathered at BaptistCare’s WestCare Centre in SA on 27 May to kick off National Reconciliation Week with food, music, and a shared commitment to connection.
Under the theme All In – a call for every Australian to commit to reconciliation not just this week, but every day of the year – the free community BBQ was a celebration of culture, history, and the people who make this community what it is.
Guests were treated to a free BBQ featuring prawns and seafood, chicken, lamb, pizza, and fresh salads, with a juice stall offering cold drinks made from fresh fruit. A barista coffee cart kept everyone fuelled throughout the morning.
Les Sumner’s acoustic set featured a mix of old favourites and new tracks, providing a perfect soundtrack for a day built around togetherness, while arts and crafts gave guests a creative outlet alongside good conversation.
The event was made possible by partners and volunteers who went above and beyond. Studio Nine Architects took to the grill to personally serve up lunch, while the Islamic Society of South Australia offered free haircuts and relaxing hand massages.
The sense of community was further strengthened through the support of valued partners and volunteers who helped bring the event to life. Studio Nine Architects once again generously stepped behind the grill to help serve lunch, while the Islamic Society of South Australia offered free haircuts and relaxing hand massages for attendees.
It’s the people who make moments like this possible – thank you for joining us and making it one to remember.
