For many women who have experienced homelessness, their self-esteem can take a significant hit.

Homelessness can take a heavy toll on a woman’s sense of self-worth, often leaving her confidence and dignity deeply shaken. To remind each woman of her inherent worth and beauty, we recently hosted a Self-Care Spa Day at Wright Place, a women-only crisis accommodation service in Adelaide.

With the support of the Wardli-ana team and generous volunteers, six women were welcomed for an afternoon of pampering, enjoying haircuts, styling, face masks, manicures, and massages. The atmosphere was warm and uplifting, offering not only relaxation but also a sense of connection and belonging.

Wright Place, established in late 2023 in partnership with the Toward Home Alliance, provides short-term accommodation, case management, and on-site support for women who, for reasons such as domestic violence, the cost-of-living crisis, family breakdown, or housing instability, have found themselves without a safe place to call home. Events like the spa day serve as an important reminder that each woman is valued and deserving of care.

At the end of the afternoon, every participant received a beauty care package and a personal diary to support her ongoing self-care journey. These thoughtful tokens carried a larger message: confidence and dignity can be nurtured, even in the face of hardship.

Since opening, Wright Place has supported 44 women, many of whom have gone on to secure long-term housing, reconnect with family and children, and build friendships within the community. The Self-Care Spa Day is just one example of how Wright Place works to restore dignity, build confidence, and foster hope for every woman who walks through its doors.
