Urban Education Opportunities

Having an inner-city presence since 1913 has enabled Baptist Care SA to develop a wealth of experience and knowledge that can inspire and motivate young people to get involved with their community.

Baptist Care SA’s Inner City site continues to be a community centre for those experiencing homelessness, as well as a dynamic Indigenous cultural hub.

What is Urban Education?

Based at our Inner City site, our Urban Education Opportunities are designed to promote empathy and a holistic approach to social issues. Our sessions are interactive, informative, fun and can be tailored to your specific needs.

We offer experiential learning opportunities, half-day awareness workshops, rough sleep outs, retreats and online education for schools, churches and youth groups.

All Baptist Care SA staff have a DCSI Police Clearance and Child Safe Certification.

Issues in homelessness

Students can visit our WestCare Centre and hear from people with a lived experience of homelessness. Our Inner City team will also share details of day-to-day life at the Centre and how it supports thousands of people doing it tough every year.

Students will also be given an opportunity to meet and interact with local community members, as well as participate in fun, educational activities.

Details: 1 or 2 half days. Up to 15 students.

Cost: $39 per person per half day

ONLINE COURSE: INTRODUCTION TO HOMELESSNESS

We also offer an engaging and interactive online homelessness lesson including a ‘lived experience story’ from Stuart. Stuart’s story highlights his journey with domestic violence, homelessness, addictions, forgiveness and reconciliation.

The lesson ends with information and resources for students to further engage in issues surrounding homelessness.
